Choosing a vacuum cleaner is no small thing. After all, it can represent a significant expense, and you will be utilizing that vacuum cleaner for what would hopefully be a long time, to clean the carpet flooring in your home. And of course, you would want a vacuum cleaner that works best for your particular cleaning needs.
So how do you choose the best vacuum cleaner for you? Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind when you start shopping around:
- Weight considerations
Some of the more traditional vacuum cleaners can weigh a lot, and cleaning can then become part-weight lifting and part-cleaning. The good news is that there are many more lightweight options now available in the market. Still, some of the best vacuum cleaners around can still be quite heavy. The question is, what would be good for you? If you don’t have any problems lugging around a vacuum cleaner weighing about 20 lbs., then you certainly have more options to choose from. But if you have back problems, joint problems, or difficulties with keeping your balance, then you may stick to the lighter vacuum cleaners that can weigh as little as 7 lbs.
- Bag or bag-less type vacuum
Just as you need vacuum cleaners to maintain your carpets, you also need to maintain your vacuum cleaner constantly. That means cleaning out the accumulated dirt and dust to keep the vacuum cleaner working at peak efficiency.
Vacuum cleaners equipped with disposable bags are easy to clean because all you need to do is replace a full bag with a new one. This can be quite expensive, however, with the added expense of new disposable bags. Bag-less vacuums, on the other hand, require actual cleaning of the canister container. This can be a messy job but is also a cheaper alternative to the disposable bag-type vacuum cleaners.
